Lighthouse Animal Shelter is an all-volunteer organization so we are always looking for a helping hand.

Whether its signing up for shifts and directly caring for the animals, or contributing your event planning, photography, or office skills we have various meaningful ways for you to volunteer with us.

SHIFT VOLUNTEERS

Shift volunteers work directly with the animals and must be at least 18 years old.

A typical shift will consist of:

  • Feeding & consistently filling water bowls

  • Keeping the dog & cat spaces clean & comfortable for our shelter residents

  • Rotating dogs in & out to go to the bathroom and socialize with other dogs

  • Sweeping, mopping, doing dishing, cleaning kennels, doing laundry, etc.

  • Scooping litter boxes

  • Keeping the yard clean & picking up after the dogs outside

After cleaning & properly caring for the physical well being of our animals, there is always time for cuddling, playing fetch, and petting.

You'll witness animals arrive at the shelter and watch them as they transform into happy, healthy dogs & cats as you prepare them for their forever family. You'll most likely leave your shift with a little more mud on your clothes but will feel good knowing you helped animals get one day closer to their new life.

SHORT TERM PROJECTS & ERRANDS

We understand that some people's schedules do not allow for a consistent, long-term volunteer shift position. Don't worry, there are some other cool ways you could help us out with short-term projects or errands.

Some things you could help us with are:

  • Transporting animals to the veterinarian

  • Dog walking

  • Participate at our events & fundraisers

  • Organizing paperwork & supplies

  • Miscellaneous repairs around the shelter

  • Gardening & yard up-keep

  • Photograph our adoptable animals

  • Sewing blankets

Even short-term tasks like the ones listed above will impact the shelter in a positive way.

If you are interested in helping out for short term projects, please complete the volunteer application and return it to the shelter. Our volunteer coordinator will be in touch and let you know when we have small tasks to complete.
